Our teachers are bound to teach for
arbitrary tests that are intended to
gauge the success of our students. All
the while many have lost the passion
and the drive that has driven them to
be teachers in the first place. Our
children are not being taught life skills
and practical knowledge but rather
how to pass tests. Again we must look
to the world let us not reinvent the
wheel but find success and adapt that
success to the practices here at home.
Looking in the world you find Finland,
teachers are allowed to teach the
subjects they have been trained to
teach. There are no arbitrary tests to
gauge success, but rather how they
preform at higher levels. This coupled
with drastically lower administration
costs and more teacher pay contribute
to a model that functions in the real
world for primary and secondary
education. All the while costing the
same or less per student than we see
currently.
